Step 3 · Apply First Coat of Joint Compound

Using a putty knife or drywall knife, apply a thin, even layer of joint compound over the self-adhesive patch or mesh tape. Extend the compound slightly beyond the edges of the patch or tape, feathering the edges to blend with the surrounding wall. Ensure the compound is spread thinly to avoid creating a bulge.
