Step 5 · Trim the Top of the Hedge

Once the sides are shaped, focus on the top. If you used a string line, trim along it. Use a sweeping motion, holding the trimmers level. For manual shears, a back-and-forth motion works well. Trim slightly more than you think you need to allow for natural settling and growth.
