Step 5 · Connect New Hose to Washing Machine

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Take your new washing machine drain hose. If it came with a new spring clamp, slide the clamp over the end of the hose first. Then, firmly push the hose onto the drain port of the washing machine until it is fully seated. Move the spring clamp into position over the connection, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the end of the hose, ensuring it is over the barbed part of the drain port. Use your pliers to squeeze the clamp open, slide it into place, and then release the pliers to secure it. Give the hose a gentle tug to ensure it's firmly attached.
