Prepare to connect the toilet drain to the main waste line. First, dry-fit a sanitary tee fitting. Once satisfied with the fit, apply PVC primer to the outside of the pipe end and the inside of the fitting. Immediately follow with a coat of PVC cement over the primed areas. Firmly push the pipe and fitting together, giving a quarter turn to spread the cement, and hold for about 30 seconds. After connecting the horizontal pipe, use a level to ensure it has the proper downward slope for drainage (typically 1/4 inch per foot).

- Apply a liberal but even coat of primer and cement. Too little can result in a weak joint, while too much can create drips inside the pipe that may catch debris.
