Step 3 · Inspect and Replace the Cartridge

This is the step most people slow down on. Take it one move at a time — there’s no rush, and you can rewind the clip as many times as you need.

With the handle removed, you should see the faucet cartridge. Carefully inspect it for wear, damage, or corrosion. If the cartridge is damaged, it's time for a replacement. Make sure the replacement cartridge matches your faucet's brand and model. Using a cartridge puller tool is recommended, but pliers may be needed if the cartridge is stubborn. Clean the valve body thoroughly before installing the new cartridge, ensuring all debris is removed. Lubricate the O-rings of the new cartridge with plumber's grease for a watertight seal.
