Step 1 · Access Your Gas Water Heater's Pilot Light

Locate the access panel for the pilot light. It's usually a small metal panel near the bottom of the water heater. Carefully remove the panel to access the pilot light and burner assembly. You might need a screwdriver for some models; refer to your water heater's manual if necessary.
