Step 4 · Turn the Gas Water Heater On

Once the pilot light remains lit after releasing the control knob, turn the knob to the 'On' setting. Check for the main burner ignition through the viewing window. If the main burner fails to ignite, refer to your water heater's manual for troubleshooting.
