Step 3 · Remove the Escutcheon Plate

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Remove the escutcheon plate (decorative plate behind the handles). This might involve unscrewing it or gently prying it off. A utility knife may be helpful to cut through any caulking.
