Step 3 · Monitor for Water Flow and Check for Leaks

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

As you continue to apply heat, listen for the sound of water starting to move inside the pipe. You will soon see water begin to trickle, then flow from the open faucet. Once a steady, full stream is restored, the blockage is cleared. At this point, immediately and carefully inspect the entire section of pipe that was frozen. Use your flashlight to look for any signs of damage. The expansion of ice can easily crack a copper pipe or split a seam, leading to a leak once the water is flowing again. Check all joints, fittings, and the length of the pipe for any drips or water spray.
