Step 2 · Remove the Shower Handle and Escutcheon

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Carefully remove the decorative caps from the shower handles. Locate and remove the handle screws using a suitable screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on your faucet). Once the screws are removed, gently pull off the handles. Next, remove the escutcheon or faceplate—the decorative cover plate—which might be held on by screws or clips.
