Step 4 · Remove and Replace the Shower Valve Cartridge
This is the step most people slow down on. Take it one move at a time — there’s no rush, and you can rewind the clip as many times as you need.
Once the retaining clip or nut is removed, carefully pull out the valve cartridge. This may require some firm but gentle force, especially with older cartridges. A cartridge puller tool can be helpful, but pliers can often suffice. Inspect the old cartridge and take it to a hardware store to find an exact replacement. Install the new cartridge, ensuring it's seated correctly.
