Step 4 · Adjust the Stopper Height via the Clevis Screw

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

To fix a stopper that won't seal, you need to adjust it to sit lower in the drain. First, push the lift rod on the faucet all the way down into the 'closed' position. Under the sink, find the clevis screw that secures the lift rod to the clevis strap. Loosen this screw slightly, but do not remove it. With the screw loose, push down firmly on the top of the pop-up stopper from above the sink until it is fully seated in the drain opening. While holding the stopper down, slide the clevis strap up the lift rod as far as it will go. Once in position, re-tighten the clevis screw securely. This adjustment changes the resting 'closed' position of the entire linkage.
