Step 11 · Build and Install Stairs (if applicable)

Calculate the total rise of the stairs (from the ground to the deck surface). Determine the number of steps and the rise and run for each step based on local building codes (typically a rise of 7-7.25 inches and a run of 10-11 inches). Cut stair stringers to create the steps. Attach the stringers securely to the deck frame and to a solid footing or landing at the base. Install treads and risers.
