Step 8 · Install Joists

Cut the joists (e.g., 2x6s or 2x8s pressure-treated lumber) to length. Mark the joist layout on the beams and ledger board, typically spaced 16 inches on center. Attach the joists using joist hangers secured to the ledger board and beams. Ensure all joists are parallel and square to the ledger. Install blocking between joists as required by code for lateral stability.
