Step 9 · Install Decking

Begin laying the deck boards at the edge of the deck, typically starting from the house. Ensure the first board is straight and perpendicular to the joists. Fasten each deck board to every joist using deck screws or hidden fasteners. Maintain a consistent gap between boards (e.g., 1/8 inch) to allow for expansion and drainage. Stagger the joints of deck boards so they do not fall on the same joist. Trim any overhang to create a clean edge.
